Jeremy Quiroga, MFA, CDI has created an opportunity to look at how Deaf Space affects the interpreting setting. Deaf Space is a concept that the Deaf community has been looking at and here Jeremy brings that perspective to the interpreting field, which will surely provide an opportunity for interpreters to reignite their outlook. With these new tools, interpreters will be able to refine their skills to interact in interpreting settings and understand how it impacts Deaf Space.

In this workshop participants will:

  • be able to discuss Deaf Space,
  • recognize how the medical environment impacts Deaf Space and learn tools to address the demand, and
  • be more aware of the power dynamics as a hearing interpreter.

This workshop is offered free to current FRID members; working interpreters, interpreting students, and interpreting instructors are also welcome to attend at a reduced cost. This Professional Studies program offers 0.3 CEUs at the SOME KNOWLEDGE content level. Deaf Space is presented in ASL.
