FRID is an approved sponsor for RID’s Certification Maintenance Program (CMP). As a benefit to our individual and organizational members we offer free processing of CEUs and ACETs. Here you will find a brief overview of the CMP program.
All RID certified members are required to complete CEUs under the RID’s CMP. The CMP requires participants earn a minimum of 8 continuing education units, CEUs, during each 4-year CMP cycle. The content areas in which interpreters can receive CEUs are divided into the following categories: Professional Studies (PS), General Studies (GS), and Power Privilege and Oppression (PPO). Of the 8 CEUs required, 6 must be Professional Studies and 1 of those must be PPO. These CEUs are earned by successfully completing learning activities approved by sponsors. Additionally, Non- Certified Associate members of RID can have their continuing education tracked similarly through RID’s Associate Continuing Education Tracking program (ACET).
As an approved RID Sponsor, FRID processes the following 3 CEU activity types for its members:
- Sponsor Initiated Activities: activities such as workshops, conferences and other similar events. Sponsorship of these activities is an included benefit for FRID Organizational Members only.
- Participant Initiated Non-RID Activities (PINRA): activities an interpreter wishes to attend which are not already sponsored by an approved RID sponsor. Sponsorship of these activities is an included benefit of Individual Membership with FRID.
- Academic Coursework: academic coursework taken from an accredited institution during the participant's current cycle. Sponsorship of these activities is an included benefit of Individual Membership with FRID.
